I'm Kurtis Simpson. Software engineer and military veteran.
I spent seven years in the Royal Australian Air Force as a Systems and Networks Technician/Administrator. That included multiple deployments on high-tempo operations, where I served as a subject matter expert in team leadership positions. The military taught me how to solve problems under pressure, work within complex systems, and lead teams — skills that translate directly into building software.
When I transitioned out of the RAAF, I enrolled at the University of Newcastle to study Software Engineering. I graduated with a Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours), and was awarded both the College Medal and the University Medal — an honour given to fewer than 1% of graduates each year.
Today I run my own practice as a sole trader, building web, mobile, and AI-driven systems for clients across a range of industries. My work spans health, construction, and music technology — with multiple production systems in use by over 100 commercial and government organisations and thousands of users globally.
