I'm Kurtis Simpson. Software engineer and military veteran.
I spent seven years in the Royal Australian Air Force as a Systems and Networks Technician/Administrator, with multiple deployments on high-tempo operations where I worked as a subject matter expert and team leader. The military taught me to solve problems under pressure inside big, complicated systems. Turns out that's most of software engineering.
After leaving the RAAF I studied Software Engineering at the University of Newcastle. I graduated with Honours and received the College Medal and the University Medal, which goes to fewer than 1% of graduates each year.
These days I run my own practice as a sole trader, building web, mobile, and AI systems for clients in health, construction, and music technology. Software I've built is in production at over 100 commercial and government organisations, with thousands of users around the world.
